Intro to Summer 2018 Menu at Kerbey Lane Cafe: An Austin Institution
South Lamar

Disclosure: I attended a complimentary seasonal summer 2018 preview dinner at Kerbey Lane Cafe – South Lamar. All opinions are my own.

Kerbey Lane Cafe is an Austin institution. Whether if it’s for breakfast or super late night eats and everything in-between, Kerbey’s is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The first operation began in a small house on Kerbey Lane (still there!) way back in 1980, and has now grown to include seven area locales (with two new spots slated to open in the future; Mueller’s Aldrich District and Braker Lane). They continue to focus on “good, homemade quality food that is local, healthy and affordable.”

With countless numbers of awards under their belt, the Kerbey team continues to deliver with their famous queso, big breakfast plates, lighter fare, monthly featured pancakes and so much more. In addition to their regular menu, they also offer three add-on seasonal menus every year and the new Summer 2018 Menu recently launched on May 24 (and will be available for approximately four months; featured image is the Lone Star Reuben).

Under consult of Kerbey Lane’s new Executive Chef Joe Anguiano (formerly of Vox Table), several new items have been added to the mix. Chef Anguiano’s focus on using the freshest, local, and sustainable ingredients reflects in the dishes being put out, including his interpretation of bagels and lox – the most amazing Smoked Salmon Benedict served on top of potato latke seasoned with shredded onion, chive, thyme, presented beautifully with hollandaise, herbed cream cheese, pickled onions and capers. With so many options available it might be difficult to choose. The struggle is real!

Off the charts Chicken and Pancakes with raspberry-maple-jalapeño sauce
Shrimp and Grits with garlic bread
Not on specific Summer Menu, but newly launched HOUSEMADE Veggie Burger

Kerbey Lane has also recently paired with Amy’s Ice Cream to to offer three new delectable desserts just in time to beat the Texas heat. In homage to Kerbey’s famous queso, the first dessert collaboration is of course named “Ice Cream Queso.” The scratch made shortbread chips can be used to dip into the yummy Zilker mint ice cream, fruit “pico,” and all of the delicious toppings – or just dig in with a spoon! Very innovative. The summer dessert menu also includes a Snickerdoodle Ice Cream Sandwich and a Fudge Brownie Sundae. [Please see menu below for full descriptions]
