Battle of the Austin Texas Cucumber Craft Brews
Austin Texas battle of the CUCUMBER BREWS! Oasis Texas Brewing Company versus Independence Brewing:
OTXBC’s Technicolor Motorhome – part of their “Kettle Sour Series” – poured golden with slight haze and made me pucker a bit. Tasted of super fresh cucumber…kind of like kicked up “spa water.” At 3.4% abv it’s a tasty summer day drinker, or refresher at the end of a fall evening. Plus, love the name.
Independence’s German influenced, Berlinger Weisse-style was crystal golden in color and was much more tart with only hints of cucumber that was overwhelmed by the taste of lemon. Had a slightly higher abv of 5%. Solid acidic wheat brew.
And, in my humble opinion, the WINNER is…both were good…I am going to have to give this one to the folks at Oasis Brewing. More enjoyable to the palate and if cucumber is what you are searching for, you’ll find it in this can. Cheers to good beers!
Disclaimer: Really must take into account that these two beers are brewed by very different processes; therefore, are going to inherently be different in flavor and palatability. In this case, I was whimsically comparing the impact of cucumbers in the flavors profiles – first experience with cucumber brews. All opinion are my own.
